What it was for
The Young Talent Award recognises younger employees within FPT IS Enterprise Solutions HCM who are seen as high-potential contributors — measured not only on what they have delivered, but on trajectory.
The year behind it
2025 was the year the shape of my work changed. It contained:
- The completion of HURC1 — HCMC Metro Line 1, where I owned FI development rather than contributing to it.
- The Acecook Vietnam data warehouse, a new discipline learned in production and delivered while leading a team of four.
- The start of the Goldilocks engagement in the Philippines — my first international client.
- The LOF integration project, connecting SAP IBP, S/4HANA and the warehouse.
Four projects, two disciplines, and the first time I led rather than contributed.
What I take from it
The award is really about the second discipline. Volunteering to learn data warehousing when the department needed someone to — while still delivering ABAP work — was a risk that could easily have produced two mediocre outcomes instead of one good one.
It did not, and the reason it did not is that the two turned out to reinforce each other. The ABAP work made me a better data engineer, because I knew what the source system actually contained. The data work made me a better ABAP developer, because I stopped thinking of a report as the end of the line.
